If you just got a cat or a kitten and you are fighting for your life, please keep watching. When I got my cat as a kitten, I was, like, fighting for my life with anxiety and just being so overwhelmed and frustrated. Times when I was literally, like, drafting up messages to the shelter to ask them to take her back. And a year later, she is the best thing that's ever happened to me. I wouldn't trade her for anything in this entire world. Please let me talk you off a ledge and give you a few tips to navigate the very stressful adjustment period of adding a cat to your house. My first tip is to just embrace the chaos. Routine, your lifestyle, your space, it's all going to change. You are taking on responsibility of a living creature, a lot of stress to bear. Number two is to regulate your nervous system. I've done therapy, I've got medication, I've meditated. I feel like the first few weeks, in, like, flight mode. So regulating your nervous system will help alleviate some of that nauseating anxiety you feel. I have a few books that are in my link tree right now that completely changed my brain chemistry and have made me a much chillier person. My last tip is to just get into a routine. Feed them at a certain time, play with them a certain amount. Try to go to bed around the same time. Cats are wild and unpredictable and crazy. The more that you can get into a routine and know what to expect everyday will do wonders for your mental health. Lastly, just know that you are not a bad cat parent because you're stressed and you're overwhelmed. In fact, I'd argue that you caring so much and putting so much of yourself to give your cat the best life ever is a great, an awesome cat parent.
