As NICU nurses, our primary goal for the day should be for the baby to be held! All day everyday! And what a good time to get a thorough look at the skin. When a baby is out to hold: -check the back and neck area -get a good look at the ears and back of the legs -use this time to give yourself a baseline for what the baby skin looks like for the rest of your shift I also use this time to check the bed for wetness, wrinkles, any need for a new linen set and of course caps/medical equipment.
