6 pieces of advice I wish someone gave me as a new teacher. No fluff. 1. You can work your butt off and still feel behind. There will always be another lesson to plan, another email to answer, another thing to organize. That feeling doesn’t mean you’re failing. It just means teaching is never truly “done.” 2. Let people think what they want. Not everyone is going to like you, and that’s okay. If you’re prepared, kind, professional, and doing what’s best for kids, that’s enough. You don’t need to prove yourself to everyone. 3. Take care of yourself or this job will take everything.Eat lunch. Drink water. Move your body. Rest when you can. You can’t pour into your students if your own cup is empty, and you don’t have to feel guilty for taking care of yourself. 4. Stay out of the gossip. Every school has it. The less you say, the better. Things get repeated, twisted, and taken out of context faster than you think. Protect your peace and be intentional about who you trust. 5. Your first year is supposed to be hard. You’re learning a brand-new career while trying to keep 30 + little humans alive and learning every day. Give yourself grace. It gets easier because you get better. 6. Your mindset will make or break you. Some days are going to be really hard. Don’t let one rough lesson, one difficult parent, or one bad day convince you you’re a bad teacher. Hold onto the good moments, learn from the tough ones, and keep moving forward. Save this for the hard days, and send it to a teacher who needs the reminder. 🤍 . . . #teacher #newteacher #teachertips #Teachertok
