I wax couches for a living and the biggest misconception clients have about ingrowns and cysts and boils and preventative care for these skin conditions in the groin area is that it's linked to their hygiene. And that is not always the case. It's actually not usually the case. Obviously, there are certain lifestyle factors like wearing clean dry underwear as often as you can, like changing throughout the day, as well as keeping the area sweat-free and dry. And there are certain products that you can use to minimize ingrowns, like different exfoliating acids. There are other skin conditions out there that cause ingrowns and skin issues in the groin area that have nothing to do with hygiene. For example, some clients have hidradenitis suppurativa, it's usually called HS. This condition can be linked to genetics. It can also be linked to hormonal imbalances, same thing with PCOS. This can cause some dryness and scaly skin in the groin area. Those things have nothing to do with your hygiene or your personal care. So if you are a client who is struggling in that area with cysts, boils, ingrowns, inflamed ingrowns and you feel like you've tried everything and it's not working, please don't be too hard on yourselves. It probably has little to do with your hygiene and more to do with something internally or genetically going on in the body.
