three nights ago my family was caught in a storm that ended up sinking our boat and about 15 others. my mom was injured people were lifeflighted people were calling out into the water family members names looking for people because I'm pregnant I ended up leaving early with my husband and my siblings and my parents just stayed for a couple extra days. this was their last night on the lake. they had the houseboat tied up and then the speed boat tied up to the side of the houseboat. we love to sleep on top of the houseboat at night so they had set up their air mattresses on top of the boat. my dad checked the weather before going to bed and it said that there was going to be lightning in the distance but that looked like it was going to pass. at 1 AM in the middle of the night they were woken up by a huge gust of wind. if this didn't happen to my mom I wouldn't even believe you but my mom was flung from one end of the air mattress to the other end of the air mattress. she ended up slamming onto the side rail on top of the houseboat and her air mattress was 30 plus feet up in the air. she ended up getting pretty injured from this and she has bruises all down her back on her sides on her legs her neck all messed up. I think I forgot to say this but the reason that they were tied up at the buoy field was that they were leaving the next morning. so a lot of their personal items were packed up into their ski boat. my parents got off the top of their houseboat and went inside. 60 to 75 mile per hour winds and over 6 foot tall waves. the fridge, drawers, cabinets, everything was opening, banging, slamming, things were falling out. my mom just said it was total chaos inside the boat and looking outside the boat. you could hear other families in the houseboat that they were having a hard time. everyone was just complete chaos. parents said the ski boat because of the waves was going straight up like this and crashing back down. each time filling with water. they said almost standing up on itself because of how big the waves were. my dad had the ski boat tied up in multiple different spots and they were fighting to keep it afloat for about 45 minutes watching it take on more and more water. they told me last. we lost our ski boat and it ended up sinking. my dad ended up coming in the houseboat at that time and he found my mom on the floor. she had hit her head super hard. she had been flung again and hit her head. he said for 30 minutes she was not making sense. he couldn't get her to really come to. and she was all over the place. at this point there's glass sliding doors at the front of the boat. winds of water and sand was coming into the boat. it was starting to break the glass doors and bowing them. so my parents had their backs up against the doors trying to keep everything from coming crashing inside. they stayed there huddled on the ground with their backs to the doors with just all the mess of everything around them. usually these microbursts or these storms are really short like this one was super long. it went from 1 AM to 3 AM. they said the whole time they were inside the boat they didn't know if it was going to sink or not. finally at 3 AM they're able to exit the inside of the houseboat. go outside. my dad used a spotlight to realize that the houseboat that was on the buoy field next to them had completely sunk and you could only see the roof. my dad used a spotlight to realize that the houseboat that was on the buoy field next to them had completely sunk and you could only see the roof.
