How it makes money, who the customers are, the moat. If you can't explain the revenue split by segment, you own a ticker not a company. 2. Financial health check. Five years of margins, free cash flow vs reported net income, net debt, share count, return on capital. Stronger or weaker. 3. Valuation vs its own history and its peers. Current multiples against the stock's own 3 and 5 year averages, then 4 to 6 real comps. A great company at a stupid price is still a bad trade. 4. The case against. Claude plays short seller. Three credible reasons this drops 40 percent, no bull case. Force the other side. 5. Catalysts and the clock. What event forces a re rate in the next 12 months. No catalyst, it's a value trap. 6. Position sizing. What size means the bear case costs you under 2 percent of the portfolio. 7. The quarterly review. If you didn't own it, would you buy it today. If no, you're not investing, you're hoping. 1 to 5 before you buy, 6 at the order, 7 every quarter on every position. The prompts aren't the edge. Running them every time is. (Not financial advice.
