So here's the five top questions I get asked about CBT courses as an ex instructor. So, no. 1. Your CBT has to be a minimum of two hours long on the road for it to count as a CBT. Anything less than that, you're not doing a CBT. Your instructor just wanted an early day. Generally, for your first time on CBT, the course should take between six and eight hours, with a minimum of two hours on the road for the CBT to actually count. Otherwise, it's an illegal CBT. No. 2. Your instructor is not expecting you to ride like Valentino Rossi or Carl Fogarty. We expect you to make lots and lots and lots of mistakes. Remember, CBT stands for Compulsory Basic Training Training. It's not a test. No. 3. Yes, you need to read the Highway Code, even though there's not a theory test. Because that two hours on the road that you're gonna spend is gonna prove to that instructor that you've read that Highway Code. And if he doesn't think, or she doesn't think, or they don't think that you have read the Highway Code to a satisfactory level, and you don't understand the rules of the road, you will not be walking away with a CBT certificate. No. 4. When it comes to kit, we expect you on your day off your CBT to turn up with suitable clothing. What I mean by suitable clothing. I can't even say it. Suitable clothing is that something if, for God's sake, you fall off, that's not gonna rip apart? A heavy pair of jeans, uh, a corduroy jacket, a leather jacket, a denim jacket. Uh, usually most schools have helmets and but I would always recommend getting your own for two reasons. 1. As much as a school will try and provide clothing for everyone, or PPE for everyone, everyone is a different size and shape, so that's not always possible. And secondly, if you've ever worked or you've ever worked out. Sorry. In a boxing gym, you know, the smell of the higher gloves or the gym gloves. Uh, so I would recommend getting because other people have been in that stuff before you. There's no guarantee they're cleaning out. And finally, no. 5 Your CBT. Oh. Should be a fun experience. If you have an instructor who's constantly shouting at you, that's not the way it should be. And I guarantee that the head or owner of that company would love to know about it. So if you feel uncomfortable at any point, tell the instructor. If you still continue to feel uncomfortable, report them. That's not how things should be.
