Obsession beats talent. It's entirely false. I can't stand when people say it. How was Lamine Yamal at 16, one of the best players in the world when he was competing against people perfecting their craft since before he was born? The 8-year-old chess prodigy runs laps around the average 30-year-old who's obsessed with chess. Salieri hated Mozart because no matter how hard he worked, he simply couldn't compose better music than Mozart, at least in the movie. Think of it like IQ, which is heavily genetic. A guy that's 90 IQ reads every book in the world, has the most optimal education and circumstances, will still never be able to compete with the guy who's 120 IQ. Spare me of the hard work beats talent if talent doesn't work. I'm not arguing the exception. The average talented person runs laps around the average obsessed person. I know it's a hard pill to swallow, but genetics is superior to work ethic, assuming that you at least put in a regular amount of effort.
