Your plant doesn't know it's Sunday. So stop watering on autopilot. One of the biggest mistakes new plant parents can make is watering on a schedule. But in reality, your plant does not care what day it is. It cares whether the soil is actually dry. So instead of thinking, this plant should be watered once a week, you should ask yourself, is the soil actually dry enough to water now? If you're unsure how to check if your soil is dry, here are two easy ways to check. First is a chopstick test. Stick a wooden chopstick a few inches into the soil. If it comes out most clean, then it's probably time to water. If there's still soil sticking to it, then it could probably wait a little longer. The second way is a pot weight test. Lift the pot when it's freshly watered, then lift it again when you might think it's thirsty. Over time, you'll learn the difference. A calendar can be a helpful starting off point so you don't actually forget about a plant for two months. But it should be a reminder and not a rule. Your calendar helps you remember, but your plant actually tells you when it's thirsty.
