It's day 17 of quitting my job and I just spent four hours trying to figure out health insurance. This was the number one question everyone asked me, especially my mom. What are you going to do about insurance? I've basically spent the last 17 days trying to fit in every doctor's appointment, I appointment, dentist appointment before my insurance runs out. First thing I learned if you're thinking about quitting is to quit at the beginning of the month. because most companies cover you through the end of the month. And then after that, you have three options to either do Cobra or get insurance from the marketplace or just go without insurance. There's typically an open enrollment period and that has already passed for me. So had to do what's called a special enrollment. And that's where you essentially have 60 days after your last day to apply off cycle. Essentially look at your total income for the year. So if you quit your job in the middle of the year, you could potentially have a lower income and then qualify for some subsidies. Also, don't put your phone number in random sites because you'll end up getting a ton of calls. I got like 20 a day. The official site is health care.com. and that usually directs you to the different states. So after four hours of research and looking at different plans, I finally selected one and we'll see if it was the right one.
