Day 26 after quitting my corporate job, and I'm taking a year to experiment different ways to make money. I just tried YouTube. I had footage from.. I did four years ago. It was the most dangerous hike in Hawaii, the Kalalau Trail. And yesterday I spent 12 hours pulling it all together into a YouTube video. This morning, I went down a rabbit hole of trying to figure out how YouTube actually make money. A video with 100k views, typically makes between $100-$500 depending on the niche. If it's in finance, for example, I can make even more. A video with a million views, you can make between a thousand dollars to a million views, over $10,000. And the craziest part is that same video can keep making money for months, even years. You don't have to do anything. You just get paid for the views. But here's the thing. To even get into YouTube's partner program, you need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours. That's the gate you have to get through to even see a single dollar. Is it a lot? Yeah, but 12 hours of editing for income, potentially forever, I think it's worth a shot. Oh, and I also figured out I should probably get a new laptop. My laptop's over 10 years old. I got it in grad school and it took hours for the video to finally export. So if I'm going to keep doing this thing, I need a new laptop. I've always had a corporate laptop and haven't had to worry about this, but now maybe it's time to upgrade my personal one. My first YouTube video is linked to my bio, you want to check it out.
