If you want to get into growing Nepenthes but you don’t know how to decide which one to start with? We have three questions you can ask yourself to help narrow it down and pick the perfect pitcher plant: (1) What kind of growing conditions can you provide? Nepenthes are categorized into three groups, all of which come with their own temperature and humidity requirements. Highlanders like chilly nights. Lowlanders like it balmy all the time. Intermediates like something in between. Most of us, whether indoors or outdoors, can successfully grow intermediate Nepenthes. (2) How do I know which intermediate Nepenthes are more vigorous, or easy to grow? Your best bet is to check the tag and look for complex hybrids (really long names with lots of X’s and parentheses), or for plants that have been identified as beginner friendly, as we’ve done! Of course, always feel free to ask. (3) So I’ve narrowed it down to intermediate complex hybrids. How do I pick now? This is the best part: choose whichever looks the best to you! Nepenthes can be striped, speckled, solid, ombré…green, yellow, red, pink, purple, or a combination…they can be long, squat, slim, or chubby. And if you’re still undecided, let us surprise you! • • • #houseplants #carnivorousplants #nepenthes #pitcherplants
