New York Times pissed me off this morning because they put out that article that was like oh there's a way to reduce your risk of developing ovarian cancer but click on the link and then you have to pay to get the answer so I'm Doctor Ali I'm a board certified OB GYN and I'm gonna give you the information for free because if there's a way to reduce the risk of cancer it should not be hidden behind a paywall everyone should know about it I talked about it before but how do you reduce your risk of ovarian cancer the answer is a bilateral salpingectomy which is also the procedure we do to tie someone's tubes right we don't tie the tubes anymore we remove the entire length of the fallopian tube both of them out of there gone obviously this also leads to permanent sterilization so it's a great form of birth control that's what you're looking for it's permanent here's the thing we now know that a large majority of ovarian cancer actually comes from the fallopian tube and not the ovary itself so because we know that the fallopian tube is to blame if you remove the fallopian tube then you decrease your risk of ever developing ovarian cancer because it's not truly ovarian cancer it's fallopian tube cancer that then travels to the ovary and presents itself as ovarian cancer does that make sense so if you're looking to reduce your risk of ovarian cancer later in life and you're done having kids you don't want kids whatever it is take your tubes out okay that's information for free out of love and out of the responsibility that I have as an OB GYN New York Times this should not be behind a paywall
