How Smart People Win at Office Politics

Being good at your job is not what gets you ahead. The people who rise are the ones who understand office politics and play it without ever looking like they are playing. Here is what they actually do that nobody talks about: 1️⃣ They never let people see them stressed. Staying calm when something goes wrong is rare, and people read it as control. The one who keeps their composure looks more senior than the one with the better point. 2️⃣ They make their boss look good, on purpose. Your manager decides who gets the credit. Make sure they are never caught off guard and always look prepared in front of their own boss. Help the person above you win and they pull you up with them. 3️⃣ They build relationships with the people whose opinions matter. The org chart tells you who has the title. It does not tell you whose opinion actually moves decisions. Build those relationships before you ever need anything. 4️⃣ They are friendly, but keep their personal life private.
