I'm currently getting my MBA

WHAT I LEARNED IN BUSINESS SCHOOL TODAY I'm currently getting my M B.A. At Stern in the special one year luxury and retail program. There's another one year program at Stern for tech. We are the only students pretty much in business school over the summer because it's a one year program. And there are some classes that we take together and there are some classes that we take separately as our individual group. One of the courses we take together is strategy, and it might be what bar my favourite course I've taken this summer so far, mostly because I'm obsessed with the professor. She's very dry. She has really hysterical idioms like peeing in the pool. Which basically means that you're creating a moat around your business so it's harder for other entrants to enter the market. And the entire class is based around cases. So you basically read these cases on businesses and then learn things about the market or specific like ways to strategize and what has inevitably happened literally after in the middle of every class, which is that people wanna argue about, like what the actual strategy is and why it doesn't need to be the case. So today we talked about Intel, and the point of the entire case was basically to say the reason why Intel didn't grow into this new risk chip market was because the people that were in power basically had no incentive to innovate because then they would lose all their power. And as Humans, we are incredibly self interested, and so if we have the power to shut down an idea, that's going to take away our power, we will, regardless of the long term benefit of innovation and, like, ultimately going where the market is gonna go anyway. This is essentially the entire discourse around A.I. Is happening. We can either get on the train or get off the train, and only one of those ways are we becoming obsolete. I find this all to be incredibly interesting, and I love learning about it. It's probably the most practical class that we've had, especially as someone who wants to build a business. But the best part of the class is actually watching everyone debate and, like, want to fight about, like, what the underlying understanding of the case should be, and watching people try to disprove, like, and find loopholes into why the strategy didn't end up working or why we're learning the case in the first place. And also just the creativity from the people that I'm classmates with around the memes that they can make around literally anything. Making memes is actually a skill. And it's classes like these that make me really happy that I'm getting my MBA. Not only because I feel like I'm learning practical skills and it's gonna be really useful for my life, but also because the people are so funny, having belly laughs. In class.
