3 things I say no to as a girl with hashimoto's. Ever since I was diagnosed with hashimoto's. Number one I stopped running. If you guys have been following me for a while you know that I recently ran my first ever half marathon. I trained for like three or four months for it which meant a lot of running like three times a week for three months. Little did I know that was absolutely wrecking my system. It caused my ferritin to drop from 24 to 19. Raising my cortisol like crazy. It increased my inflammation. At the beginning it was really hard because I had gotten really into running and I was enjoying running. After learning how harmful it can be to my autoimmune activity. I quickly gave it up and I honestly am really happy about it. Number two I stopped eating gluten immediately. This was so hard for me because I can eat sourdough bread like it's my job. I love sourdough. I used to eat it every single day without fail. And that has been a really hard transition for me because you really can't find good high quality gluten-free breads anywhere. Gluten has a very similar build to the thyroid antibody. So whenever somebody with hashimoto's eats gluten, their body assumes that the thyroid antibody is gluten. So it starts attacking that gluten antibody as well, which just makes the autoimmune activity even worse and worsens my symptoms that I already had. And last but not least, I stopped ignoring my sleep. I love sleeping. It is so important. But I was never super consistent with it because I would go to bed later on the weekends. Some days I'm working from home so I can sleep in a little bit. I tried to go to bed at the exact same time every night and wake up at the exact same time every day. This is called supporting your circadian rhythm, which is so good for your stress levels and overall immune function. I've noticed a big difference with it. I noticed that I'm having a deeper sleep. I don't wake up in the middle of the night. I haven't noticed like that 3 o'clock energy crash anymore. And I truly think it's because I've been supporting that circadian rhythm. So far so good. All in all, the three things I stopped running, I stopped eating gluten, and I stopped ignoring my circadian rhythm. So far so good.
