Kosovo honestly has to be Europe’s most underrated hiking destination. Despite being such a small country, there are multiple mountain ranges to choose from, all within an hour’s drive of the capital (Sharr Mountains, Accursed Mountains, Rugove Mountains). I’d prioritize the following: 1. Prevalla to Jazhincë Lake: The longest of the bunch at about 20KM round trip. It’s not too difficult, but go with a guide as the trail isn’t well marked. The payoff is perhaps the most stunning glacial lake I’ve ever seen, and it’s a really nice hike even before you get there. It’s close to Prizren! 2. Gjeravica Peak: The (disputed) highest point in Kosovo. I’d also recommend a guide for this one, as the road up to the trailhead requires a 4x4 vehicle, and it’s also not the most well-marked. The sweeping views are incredible as you get to the lake and toward the peak. You can see three countries clearly! 3. Kuqishte to Lake Liqenat: The first hour isn’t fun, as it’s straight uphill. If you power through, you’re rewarded with not one, but two charming alpine lakes. Make sure to keep going to the second smaller lake, as that portion of the hike is the most beautiful.
