If you can't sleep on planes, it's because you don't have a system. It's not that you're a bad sleeper. So here's what you're going to do to actually sleep on your flights. Part two, the setup ritual. Number one, when you go on the plane, if you put your blanket on, you want to make sure that your seatbelt goes over your blanket so that if there's turbulence or something, you don't need to wake you up to make sure you receive belt on. You always want to layer for temperature swings. It can be 30, 70 degrees somewhere, and I'm telling you, you will still need a sweater on the plane. So, compression socks and shoes off, socks on. You always want to have either a great silk scarf or a sweater with me. There's nothing worse than being cold on the plane. So you want to make sure that the perfect airplane outfit is covered. We'll do a whole video on that. But you want to wear something like a great t-shirt that you're comfortable in, and if you need to take off your sweater, and a sweater that you can layer. Shoes can come off, but then your compression socks are on, okay? Socks. The best way to actually cue your body to sleep is to do whatever your version is of a mini nighttime routine that you can actually do on the plane. If you feel like it's not too busy, and you can bring your water bottle, you can brush your teeth, you can do a quick face wipe, a little mist. I love and you can do seatbelt on, eye mask down, headphones on with brown noise or white noise. And I've linked all my favorite items too. The sleep itself. Number one, recline immediately after takeoff on overnight flights, claim the angle before the domino effect of everyone else reclining into you. Head strategy: Trtl. The neck pillow's job is preventing the head-snap wake-up, so whatever holds your head still wins. Some people flip a regular neck pillow backwards, pillow under chin. Footrest improvisation: a carry-on under the seat in front raises your knees slightly. Cover your eyes AND your peripheral vision AND turn off the tv screen. If you wake up, don't check the flight map or phone. You need to make sure your eyes and your peripheral vision are covered, okay? So that means I like sleep masks that go 360, not just when the plane is landing here. There's nothing worse than taking something that's going to make you drowsy and then realizing that you maybe have to go back to gate. Let me know what time block we're doing next. Last favorite tip, if you are taking a sleeping pill, you do not want to take that sleeping pill until the plane has actually taken off from the tarmac. There is nothing worse than taking something that's going to make you drowsy and then realizing that you maybe have to go back to gate. Let me know what time block we're doing next.
