Wait yes please sleep tips! Plane sleeping is a skill that can be learned. Okay, you just need the right systems. Part 1: Pre-flight prep. #longhaulflight #overnightflight #traveltipsandhacks #carryonqueen I can't sleep on planes because I don't have a system. So here's the Carry-On Queen guide to sleep - pre-flight. Part one is pre-flight prep. Okay? Part two is what you actually do on the plane. Pre-flight prep starts before you even get to the airport. Okay? It is the day of. Let's say you're taking an evening flight. You want to be strategic with what you're doing during that day. You want to enjoy your sleep in that morning. You want to make sure that you're drinking a ton of water. Now, when you book your seat, or you check in 24 hours before, there are a few different seats that are supreme. Number one, the window seat on the side that you naturally sleep on at home. If you're a side sleeper and you usually sleep on the right side of your pillow, be mindful of that. If you cannot, and you need an aisle, you need the middle aisle. So for long haul flights like that, you're typically on something like a 787, the configuration might be three, four, three instead of being the aisle of the middle, you want to be the aisle of the middle. So that if somebody needs to get out, they still have another side to get out of. Don't wake me up because you need to use the bathroom. You also want to make sure that you avoid certain seats on the plane. Like the last rows don't recline, galley noise, bathroom traffic, and bulkhead if you're a leaner. Bulkhead is an L. So like all flights, you time block your sleep. So you are deciding before the flight, which hours you're sleeping based on your destination time zone. Board tired, not exhausted. Slightly sleep-deprived equals fall asleep fast. Fully wrecked equals overtired, wired, and annoyed. You want to be just the right amount of tired. I always skip caffeine 6+ hours before, and go easy on alcohol. The "wine to fall asleep" trick does you worse, shallower sleep and you're up at altitude. The one that's up for debate is really if you want to eat on the flight. Now, if you do want to enjoy the meal service, which I find is a great way to kill the first two hours of a flight, just be mindful that following that, you're going to nip to the bathroom and then you can reset your space. Part two, I'll do what you're actually gonna do on the plane.
