Tech was never welcoming to me. I’d still tell every girl to come. I started at 17 knowing nothing about computers. I cried most weeks, the stress wrecked my health, I’ve been the only woman in nearly every room since - and I finished the PhD and I’d sign up again tomorrow. That’s not an empowerment post. It’s a dare. For the people who’ll tell me it’s all fixed now: women were 19% of Europe’s core tech roles in 2025, down from 22% the year before (McKinsey, 2026 - core tech roles, ~4M Linkedln profiles). Eurostat counts a wider group, ICT specialists, and has women at 19.5% in the EU in 2025. Different datasets, same room I keep walking into. So no, it didn’t get welcoming. It got worth it.
