Transcript
If you are on food stamps or EBT, listen up. We have an important update about the Hot Foods Act, which is going to change the way food stamps are used forever. What is this about? Well, we've been updating you about the Hot Foods Act since last year it was introduced and this is something Colorado Senator Michael Bennet introduced last year to help food stamp recipients use their food stamps to buy hot food at grocery stores and convenience stores. Why is this important? Well, up until now, you cannot use your food stamps to buy hot food. You can only use it to buy approved select foods at grocery stores. And the problem is, a lot of people were frustrated because they weren't able to get these hot meals and provide them for their families. So the Hot Foods Act was introduced in Congress and it's been sitting there since last year. It's part of the farm bill that is currently being negotiated and we have great news about that. It has finally been included in the new USDA Farm Bill that is going to be debated in Congress, which means that when Congress returns and they start talking about the farm bill, the Hot Foods Act is going to be there. Now, here's the interesting thing and the most promising sign. Both parties, members of Congress in both parties are heavily supporting the inclusion of the farm bill. So the hope is that when Congress returns, they are going to debate the farm bill and then by the end of September, all things being equal, they are going to pass that bill and then it's going to change the way you use your food stamps forever. So, I want to ask you this. If Congress passes the farm bill, including the Hot Foods Act, is this something that you are going to take advantage of by using your food stamps to buy hot food? I want to hear from you in the comments below.
