This still brings me PTSD. I remember the first time my mom had to teach us how to use socks as a pad and I was grossed out but didn’t say anything because I know how sad it made her. Growing up we were in so much debt. Some of my dads sisters were loan sharks and my mom was the only working and her entire paycheque would go toward rent and paying his sisters. Breakfast wasn’t a thing in my house. I remember my school had a free breakfast program and I try to get to school early. As soon as I turned 16 I got 2 jobs and things got better. If you knew me growing up, you’d understand why I work so hard I wanted every opportunity I could get. I went to university for free not because my parents had an RESP for me but because I applied for every single scholarship and grant I could.
