If someone who can re-read the same sentence 10 times and still not remember what it says, you're running into the same problem I did with these messy notes. And it's probably wasting a lot of time. You're seeing something, but you're not absorbing it. You can change this really easily by combining two psychological concepts that helped me absorb more information and get that time back into my life. And they have fun names because they are backed by science. So, firstly, we want to implement the production effect, which is a fancy way of saying that as you're reading through something, you're also going to say it out loud. This takes you from then encoding the information in one format, visual, auditory from hearing it, and kinesthetic from saying it. The issue with that is it's still encoding the information in a very basic term and definition format. In real life, we're often presented with complex ways to apply the things that we've learned. So we're going to pair this with elaborative encoding, which means that as you are reading out loud, simultaneously having a voice in the back of your mind that is asking questions along the way. Your favorite word should be why. Why is this happening? Why does this matter? The combination of these two requires very little effort on the front end, but can make a massive difference in your ability to absorb information. I try to learn everything I can about learning and then share what I find that helps you live more life. So if you find this helpful, follow for more. And I'll be back tomorrow as always. :) ☀️
