Canada thistle is a very difficult perennial weed to remove. It is possible to remove it without herbicide if you continue every week to cut any new stems or leaves down to the ground. This will eventually exhaust the root system, but the root system is very vast on this, so it will take a year sometimes longer if your patch of thistle is large.
