Thistle Removal Without Herbicide

This is a perennial weed. Most weeds are actually annuals, but the perennial ones are the ones that give us the most problems. They keep coming back. If you do an internet search for Canada thistle root system, you will see a root system that goes six feet deep and wide, okay? So all of these little green, these are not individual plants. They're part of the same big root system. So trying to get the roots out is literally impossible. And if you don't want to use an herbicide, what you can do is that root system, don't forget, stores carbohydrate for the plant to live through the winter. So what we want to do is exhaust the carbohydrate out of the roots and don't let it photosynthesize any new carbohydrate. Okay, that's how it makes food, stores in the root system. So as soon as you see this stuff come up, just snip it. Don't leave any green. Don't worry about getting the roots. And every week you're going to see new ones pop up. Just come cut, cut, cut, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip. And just eventually that root system will be exhausted of food source of a food source. So it will take a couple of years depending on how old and big your root system is on yours. But it is a way to exhaust the plant without using any herbicide.
