What this experience has shown me is just how unevenly opportunity and resources can be—and how powerful people can be when they choose to come together. Nearly 40 strangers, most of whom will never meet Mama T, collectively did what one family couldn’t afford to do alone after 13 years. That doesn’t make her family any less hardworking. If anything, it shows just how much they fought with what they had. This series has reminded me that changing someone’s life doesn’t always require one wealthy person writing a massive check.
