This man in is turning old cans into incredible works of art and once you his art means so much more. Hi, I'm Daniela and I travel around the world telling unique stories and along the way, I keep meeting incredibly talented people whose work deserves to be seen. So I decided to start a series about some of the most talented people I've met around the world. And today, our story begins in Zimbabwe, in the Elephant Walks Artist Village. Ishmael is a can artist here in Zimbabwe that collects cans and turns them into recyclable art. He started making can art after he was shot in South Africa and became paralyzed waist down. He struggled a lot during his recovery and needed a way to make income and always loved art, so he started practicing can art. He chose can art specifically as a reminder that what we throw away has an impact on the environment and the wildlife living in it. That sometimes trash art can also be art. He starts the process by creating the wiring underneath him and once he has, he strips the can of the metal. And each strip has to be cut perfectly, even leaving no little strips behind. And depending on how big or small the piece is, it could take from one full day of work to a full few months. And like I said, in the beginning, the world is full of talented people that deserve to be seen. So follow along as we discover more talented people around the world.
