Story time with Doctor Harmon 🩺 👩🏽⚕️ Imagine being a mom from way down in south Georgia, suddenly living at the Ronald McDonald House in Atlanta because we need you close to the hospital because of abnormalities noted on a fetal MRI--baby’s jaw won’t open. No way to eat, no way to breathe the usual way. That’s why she had all that extra fluid (polyhydramnios) the baby couldn’t mechanically breathe or swallow well. So we bumped up her specialist visit and walked her through what’s next: an EXIT procedure (ex utero intrapartum treatment), not in a few days, but right now. We placed a tracheostomy tube while the baby was still mostly in the uterus, letting the placenta do its thing during the handoff. Wild, right?
