I don't know if this is a hot take or not, but if you're going to the vet, do not put a flexi leash on your dog. I am not a flexi leash hater. If you use them correctly and appropriately and responsibly. But even if you use them correctly, I don't see the point in bringing one to the vet office. The other day, Creed and I were at the vet and there were several people that walked in with dogs on flexi leashes just pulling very hard towards Creed. Creed is not dog reactive, he's in fact pretty dog neutral, he's somewhat interested, but he overall doesn't really care. But these other dogs were pulling so hard that the owner could barely control them. Obviously, they had the flexi leashes locked, but as someone who has used flexi leashes for a long time, those locks can come undone if the dog pulls hard enough. Also, I definitely feel like since you're in a more confined area, you should not be using a flexi leash that has to be reeled in for your dog to be under your control. Unlike regular leashes where you can just wind the leash around your arm. Flexi leashes when they're locked in a certain position, if you unlock it and the dog is pulling, guess what? The dog's gonna get all of that free range. I just honestly don't see the point in bringing your dog to the vet office with that much length on a leash when you're in a confined area like that with other dogs. It's completely different if you're at a park walking your dog on a flexi lead because there's plenty of room to get off the trail or go a different way. In vet office waiting rooms, it's a very small room with a lot of dogs. Also, can we please stop bringing dogs in to the vet office and allowing them to be 20 feet in front of you and enter the building before you even enter. It's rude, it's irresponsible and not everybody wants to meet your dog. Also, if someone's dog is at the vet, they could have something that may or may not be contagious. Or they may be sick and they don't want your dog running up on their dog that's sick. I just honestly don't see the point in bringing your dog to the vet office with that much length on a leash when you're in a confined area like that with other dogs.
