grwm - do not use Asian people as your anti-Black talking point

When Xavier and I were trying to resurrect the model minority myth in this podcast, they are using Asian people as racial inanimate objects against the Black community. I saw this clip on TikTok and that was all I need to see. The way they're speaking about Asians, whether that be East Asian, South East Asian, West Asian, South Asian, it's not praise. It's propaganda. This is the exact same rhetoric we've seen in the model minority myth. The model minority myth is a stereotype that labels certain minority groups as naturally smart, hardworking, and successful. Key aspects of this concept include: Origins in the 1960s civil rights era, Using perceived success to minimize systemic racism, Pitting minority groups against each other. The model minority myth has never been something that's about loving Asians. We are used as tools in white supremacy to discipline all minority groups in America. They have a special talent for this because while they're suppressing all the other minorities, they are still objectifying Asians. We do not see us as people. They see us as tools. Saying, look at Asians, they don't complain, they work hard, they're silent. They experience racism but they don't protest. Why are Black people complaining? Why are indigenous people complaining? Why are trans complaining? Even just listening to that snippet of their podcast, I could tell that they'd never done research. Asian people have been excluded, lynched, detained, colonized, trafficked, incarcerated, exploited for labor and banned from citizenship. Asian Americans have protested, have organized, have built, have fought against imperialism. And studies in solidarity with Black liberation movements. The fantasy of the apolitical Asian American is not real. It is fan fiction made by white people. Asian success in America has never been proof that racism doesn't exist, and it never will be. We are not just in one class position. It includes refugees, working class immigrants, undocumented people, nail salon workers, domestic workers, adoptees, old people, disabled people, restaurant owners, all of us have different histories of war, migration, casting, colorism, and racism. All of us have a relationship to empire. We're trying not to see Asian Americans again, but they are actively trying to use Asian Americans. White supremacy stays alive in America by pitting marginalized people to compete for proximity to power. Consider recognizing and dismantling the systems that put us in this predicament to begin with. Many of us do remember the oppression that has been done to us very vividly. What I specifically hate about the model minority myth is that it flattens East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, and West Asian and other Asian histories and racism to a mindset that's just not the reality.
