I think it's really disturbing imo, also how pale she is and the whiteness of the dress signaling to n*dity. Doing this specific performance you can see her discomfort with the wardrobe exposing her body and she keeps trying to fix it. And people don't act like they were a minor just seconds ago. The yoonchae from katseye and I feel like we have to talk about women in pop culture very, very carefully, especially East Asian women in idol culture. Yoonchae is the youngest member of katseye and she's like freshly 18. I've been gefen used that they'll use that, you know, pre-pubescent to immediately sexualize her because four months after she turned 18, Nari was released. And that is when we've gotten this AI swap world, AI choreography of katseye now. Turning 18 does not mean you are developmentally or emotionally or physically fully developed as a person. Like people forgot that she joined this industry when she was a minor. She started training when she was pre-teen. She's been in this entertainment machine. A lot of people who enjoy K-pop are really quick to ignore that, but I think that is monumental into what I'm about to discuss. This industry spends years training young, impressionable, malleable, underaged girls to be polished, obedient, camera ready, brand safe, consumable. Ultimately, they are training young girls to be their ultimate peak form of desirability at all times. And the moment these girls turn 18, people feel too comfortable projecting sexualization onto them. And brands and labels aren't protecting these girls. They are the ones exploiting them. This is specifically complicated to add the fact that Yoonchae is Korean and she is East Asian. In the West, there's a long history of sexual exploitation and infantilization of East Asian women and fetishization. Think there are a lot of overlapping traits with East Asian fetishization and pedophilia. East Asian women are often seen as cute, fragile, small, innocent, submissive, and doll-like. And then that same innocence in childlike likeness becomes eroticized. If you have a preference for East Asian women, this is why you're fucking weird. It was all a favor and just put yourself in jail already. I see people sexualizing Yoonchae like it's not just happening to her, it's not happening just because of her. It's happening inside of a culture that already loves to sexualize and fetishize East Asian girls into two sexual fantasies. It's really clear that this isn't about shaming Yoonchae or shaming what she wears. I'm not saying that young women can't grow up being confident and expressing themselves. This is more so about the audience and the brand and the gaze. How we go from protecting a minor one day to projecting sexuality onto them the next day. If the only thing stopping your sexualization of a girl is her birthday, that was never the fucking problem. It's what I want to highlight. You learn something new or your attention spans.
