Your kids are not guests in your schedule. Your schedule is a guest in their childhood. I say that as a guy who runs companies and loves work. This is not anti-hustle. It's anti-lying about the exchange. The calendar feels permanent. The meeting, it feels like it matters. The trip feels unmovable. But we need to run the real math together. That meeting is going to be forgotten by next week. Nobody in the room's going to remember it in a year. But you missed remembers exactly who was in the stands. They have a way of keeping attendance in no way a calendar ever will. Childhood is not a very long season. You get maybe 18 summers. And you're asleep for the first few. The business will take every single hour it can offer it. It has no bottom. It will accept your evenings, your weekends, your recitals, and your soccer games. And it will never once love you back. I'm not telling you to work less. I'm telling you to stop calling it a sacrifice for them when half of it is ambition. The business counts your hours. Your kids count the ones you didn't give it.
