One year since I found “Spike” the Coyote
I found a heat-struck wolf cub under my car.
He had Cholla cactus stuck all over his body
He was in great pain and super weak.
I pulled him out to save him
gave him some water, and he drank every drop.
Slowly he started to come around.
I took him home and wiped him down.
I had no idea where his mom was.
I gently soothed him
and soon he curled up under the couch and fell asleep.
The next day I took him to the vet.
The doc checked him and found his leg was broken, then put a cast on it.
After he healed, I brought him home.
I bought toys to play with him
he loved them and had a blast.
He grew a lot, getting as long as my arm.
I have loved you for thousands of years
I took him outside to get used to the wild
and we even went swimming together.
He seemed to have forgotten his natural instincts,
but I never gave up.
Until one day we decided to release him back into the wild.
He stood on the grass, staring at us from far away.
