Storytime of how the freshman computer science class at North Carolina A&T got caught in a cheating scandal where 80% of the class was failed. Okay, so it's the year 2021, before ChatGPT came out. So the only way to cheat was using your classmates or Art-Hades. And NCAT, you had to take an intro to Python course, your freshman year, and it's divided into two professors and each professor has two classes. So I had the hardest professor. This professor was like, low-key evil because if one student was doing something bad, everyone got in trouble. Like, one student was watching Rick and Morty in one of the classes and he decided to give everyone a pop quiz. And then he called the pop quiz Rick and Morty. And everybody failed the pop quiz. But by the end of the semester, everybody was failing, like 60% of the class was failing. And the only way to get your grade up was by passing the final project and the final exam. But the problem was the final project that he gave us was extremely hard, like no one could solve it. So a group of students had decided to come together and they figured it out and they set the project to everyone. But me, I didn't get the project because I didn't have any friends in class and I was like, like a super big Nicki Minaj fan. And Nicki Minaj said she writes her own lines. So I'm gonna write my own code. So I wrote all my own code and I didn't cheat. And I didn't get any of the answers. So then we turned in our final projects and then literally like a week later, we all get an email saying that the project will no longer be counted as a grade because so many students turned in the same project. And then you think that would be the end of the story, but now you had to get an A on the final test to pass the class. So then some students decided to complain. They were like, no, you need to count the project, we already did it and we know we passed. So they decided to go to the Chancellor, not the teacher, not the dean, not the associate dean, they went straight to the Chancellor. So the Chancellor decided to open an investigation. And then all the computer science professors had to go through everyone's program. And if your program looked like someone else's, you were gonna get a zero and you're gonna get a mark on your academic honesty record. And what made it worse is the people who told were the people who were cheating. So I think at the end, like 80% of the students, like 180 students, like 80% changed their major and other 10% went to the next class. And yeah, that's the NC A&T Computer Science Freshman Scandal.
