These are some things that you can no longer do once you live in Japan, coming from someone who lives in Japan and still gets told off for doing these things. Just warning you so you don't feel shame. Just existing as a foreigner in Japan right now. There's so many small things I'm doing wrong on the daily and it can get exhausting. Tell someone you're going on holiday unless you're bringing them back an omiyage. Sometimes it's natural if you're a foreigner to be like, oh yeah, going to Bali this weekend. Can't do that in Japan unless you're planning to give them an omiyage. It can be something small like a little chocolate. As long as you're bringing something, otherwise it's kind of rude. Sit on the floor in public. I'm Australian, so this one is hard for me, especially after an exhausting day, but that's immature and dirty. It doesn't matter if you're going to shower or clean your clothes after, it's despicable. Don't give anyone fuel to be anti-foreigner. Don't sit on the floor in public. Be late to everything like it's a personality trait. No, in Japan, you gotta be like, five minutes early. And that's like, Loki kind of late. I'm late to everything, and I know it's shameful and terrible, and I'm warning you not to be like me. Not have Paypay. It's so hard out here. We don't have Paypay. It's hard to send other people money. Bank transfers are egregious. I'm not paying $2 to send my friend money. I'll probably pay you in like six months. It makes me feel bad because I don't want to owe other people, but guys, you can't live in Japan and not Paypay. Go to a wedding without paying 30,000 yen or 50,000 yen. This is just a rule. I don't think you'll have entry unless you pay. Weddings are not free in Japan. They are for profit. Make adjustments to your food order. You can still try. I recently had to go through a healthcare scare, and there's a lot I need to change, but you're probably going to get rejected. Unlike these influencers on TikTok. Wear leggings/athleisure in public. People don't want to see the shape of your butt. In fact, people might take a photo of it and then post it on threads. Of course, only Japanese people do that. Lastly, wear a skirt without pants underneath. Because there's a lot of weirdos here. It doesn't matter the length of the skirt, you have to wear something underneath. These people are getting creative and creepy. Never give them a win, okay?
