Oheka Castle was designed not to burn. It was built between 1914 and 1919, after Otto Kahn lost a previous home to a fire so he designed this one to resist fire. He incorporated fire-resistant design like reinforced steel and concrete, unusually thick walls, and instead of using wood on ceiling and walls (because it’s combustible), he used plaster and finished to to look like wood. Concrete and plaster don’t fuel a fire and thick walls help slow a fire down. The building might be 100 yrs old but the philosophy is still true.
