I'm the girl who refuses to stay silent for any longer. I'm a survivor of human trafficking and I'm trying to use my experience to help others. Numerous people have tried to silence me, and I am gonna break the silence. My story belongs to me, and I am allowed to tell people what happened to me. When I tell people that I was trafficked, people always think that it was some kind of dramatic abduction, like kidnapping someone, pulling me into a van in a Walmart parking lot. While that does happen sometimes, it is not how human trafficking actually works. There's also different types of human trafficking. There's sex trafficking, there's labour trafficking, there's other kinds of trafficking, and people don't even know about them. Or they think labour trafficking. I thought that just happens overseas, like in Africa. But the sad reality is that it happens every single day in places where you don't even expect someone to be trafficked.
