I had a failed rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills so let's fly to Turkey to fix it. 10 years ago, during my first rhinoplasty, I spent $17,000, to be left with a crooked, deformed, short, upturned nose that's collapsing and breathing problem. No accountability and no offer to fix it. Being so scared for my first surgery, I started looking into who would be the absolute best for revision. And that's when I started reading more about Turkish doctors. So in Istanbul specifically, there are so many talented doctors that charge way less than the US and they're usually specialists. So like a master in their craft. I decided to go with Dr. Selim Turan. I chose him because he had a lot of experience in revision rhinoplasties and he's also an ENT so I knew he'd fix my breathing. His office sent over a car to pick us up from the airport when we landed. And then we checked into the Radisson Blu Hotel, Istanbul Asia. Istanbul's really cool and the fact that it's divided between two continents, so there's a European side and an Asian side. We're staying on the Asian side because that's where the hospital is and his office is. The next day after we got in, the first thing I did was go to the hospital where my surgery will be performed. I did all my paperwork and did my blood work. They don't have an English translator with you, so it makes the experience really easy. And then we got some food at the cafe. My consultant and person with Dr. Selim was a little bit later in the day. So we went back to the hotel to freshen up and then we just took a walk around because we got in so late we couldn't really see the property and it was just so sunny and this beautiful spa, it's gym and it's super close to the hospital, so that's always good. Then we had to go to Kotikoy for my in-person consult with Dr. Turan. So excited to meet him in person. I've had so many video calls with him and so many chats, I just felt like I knew him. Then I sat down with the nurse at the office and she gave me all of my instructions, pre-op, post-op, and all of my medications. They provide everything for you. And then signed all of my consent forms. We had some time to kill before my consult, so we wanted to walk around and see the area. We went to this matcha coffee place that was so delicious. This area was super walkable and nice, so like if you wanted to be in a more walkable area, you should probably stay here. But I was more concerned with being closer to the hospital. Then we walked down to the water, which I had no idea that there was beach access right here. So I really appreciated that there wasn't too many people here. It wasn't overcrowded. And this cafe is so good. Then we headed back to the office for my in-person consult, which I was so excited about. I actually printed out a whole document of like my goals, what I wanted, and what I didn't want. I highly encourage you, anytime you're getting a procedure to be super, super detailed. It's not annoying, it's not over the top. And a good surgeon is going to encourage that because he wants to give you what you want. Then Dr. Turan did an exam of my nose and we took some before photos. He took those photos and started doing a rendering of what my nose could look like based off what I told him. So we're just heading back to the hotel. Is of my surgery. Of course, I'm so nervous but I'm just so excited to finally get this fixed. It's something I've been wanting for so long. So stay tuned for part two. I'll be walking through the surgery and post-op. We're just going to turn in for the night, order some room service. See you tomorrow.
