8th grade has just finished up their needle felting unit. I am super impressed with what they came up with this year. Students are able to needle felt whatever they want. Their choice just has to have at least four attachments. So something that they're making separately, like an arm or a leg or an ear, and then is attached to the main structure. They don't have to pick an animal, although I think a lot of students go that route. They can also pick inanimate objects. Before we felt, students create a sketched plan with color. Then we start with core wool and add colored roving on top. Starting with core wool really helps students to get the hang of needle felting. Then, once they're finished with their main structure, we switch to using colored roving. If you'd like to learn more about needle felting, join my Patreon. I'm offering needle felting 101.
