Another huge movie is shooting entirely in IMAX, and it's one of the most hotly anticipated films of 2027 worldwide. Okay, so Christopher Nolan made history this year by shooting all of The Odyssey in IMAX. The movie's massive success, plus months of sold-out IMAX screenings, have left many film fans wondering who will be the next director to shoot fully in IMAX. And we just got the answer: SS Rajamouli, the Indian master behind RRR. Rajamouli is currently 80% done with his next epic film, Varanasi. And yes, according to a recent interview the director gave to the European magazine Tsounami, the entire movie in IMAX, making it the second film ever to do so. Though it's worth noting Rajamouli used digital IMAX cameras rather than 70mm film like Nolan. Varanasi is being described as a "globetrotting and it stars Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, among others. According to World of Reel, the film will have big effects like RRR and its post-production is actually happening alongside production to get it finished on time. Rajamouli shot Varanasi in seven countries, going on locations throughout India, in the forests of Kenya, and it's one of the rare movies to film in Antarctica. And all of that doesn't come cheap. Variety, it's got a $150 million budget, which makes it the most expensive movie in Indian history. Varanasi which will run about three hours, currently has a worldwide release date of April 7th, 2027.
