G1 Blaster from the 1985 Transformers toy line began as a working Takara Micro Change AM radio. Before Hasbro released the Autobot Communications figure, this mold was the Micro Change MC 21 Radi Casse Robo. A radio unit shaped like a microcassette plugged into the chest, while the electronics and speaker system lived inside the larger toy. Hasbro removed the working radio components for the Transformers release, but the original design left evidence everywhere. G1 Blaster still has the molded tuning dial, power switch, earphone jack, and the large opening in his Electro Scrambler where the original earphone was stored. Even the cassette controls tell a story. Play locks into place, Stop releases it, and Eject opens the chest door. Many original Blaster toys were also assembled with controls that never worked correctly. That makes G1 Blaster more than a vintage Transformers boombox. He is the shell of a real electronic toy hiding in plain sight. Did your original Blaster have working buttons? #TransformersG1 #G1Blaster #VintageTransformers #VintageToys #toycollector
