What do I do with my life after graduation? Maybe you're asking the question, what do I do with my life after graduating from college? I would encourage you to memorize Colossians 3:23. Where Paul writes, whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord rather than men. In other words, when you go to your first interview, the question is not, how much money am I going to make? How much money are you going to pay me? Rather the real question is, does this job opportunity give me the place and the time to use my passions and my gifts to serve God by serving people? Does this job that I'm looking at give me the opportunity to use my passions and my gifts to serve God by serving people? That's the bottom line question. Is making money important? Of course it is. And yet that's not the bottom line. The bottom line is God has given you passions, he's given you gifts. Now you find the best opportunity to use those unique passions, those unique gifts to serve him by serving people. What helped me the most and why I'm doing what I'm doing after college was close Christian friends said, no, Stuart, your first marketing, being a lawyer, that's not your giftings. That's not your ultimate passions. You're doing that perhaps to make money or to have a certain reputation. Don't do that. Instead, help understand through prayer, through reading of scripture, and through talking with close Christian friends, they're going to be able to speak into your life in ways that God is saying, here's the direction you should go rather than perhaps your pride gets in the place or your anxiety gets in place or your motives are mixed up for what to do next. Secondly, know that stepping into a job doesn't mean you're going to be in that job for life. The average American goes through five different jobs now in their life in separate careers. So know that even Paul had opened and closed doors. So when you step into a job, you don't have to say, oh gosh, this is for life and I'm making the wrong decision. No, take that step and see where God leads.
