I am going on an air dry hair journey. I'm not actually sure if I should brush it or not though. I used to wear my hair how it dried naturally all the time before I had kids. You'd think since it's less effort I would've kept that going. But if I had to psychoanalyze myself, I would say that wearing my hair air dried is less consistent and a little unpredictable. Oh, lovely lipstick on my teeth. Which motherhood already has so much of that in there. That just blowing my hair out and curling it consistently looked good. So even though it takes me forever to blow out my hair, I would do it. Just because it kind of took out the unknown, if that makes sense. But I love the effortless look of waves, so I'm determined to get mine back to a good place. I thought I would document and share what I'm using with you guys and how it works for me, in case any of you are wanting a more effortless look. The first three steps I'm doing the same as I would if I had just washed my hair and was gonna blow it out: my scalp serum, then this extra strength spray that just helps fight the frizz off, which is a must in the Texas heat and humidity. And then this nourishing hair oil. This is the best, and also this bottle lasts forever 'cause a little bit goes a long way. And then what I'm using for letting it air dry is this, it's new to me. I was in Sephora and kind of explained what I was hoping to achieve and she recommended this, which smells so good. I haven't ever tried this brand, but it's a smoothing air dry cream. I left my hair up in the towel while I did my makeup. What we're not going for is the way I used to wear it in, like, middle school and high school when I would put a bunch of mousse in it and I would use a diffuser and, like, scrunch it up and get that like wet, crunchy look. I really need to find a picture of myself. I would even go so far to, like, straighten the front pieces and then leave the rest, um, diffused. That was, mm-hmm, a look. So we're not going for that. Work this all the way through. If you wear your hair air dried or just natural, I'm curious if you brush it before or not. I am gonna try to just part it like I normally would, which is as close to down the middle as my cowlick will allow. And then I'm just gonna kinda scrunch it. I always feel like the hardest part for me with natural hair is just getting your front pieces to look good. I'm gonna add more of this. I'm not feeling super confident. It's looking a little frizzy to me. But I'm gonna let it finish air drying while I do some computer work and things around the house and then I will be back. So here's where we've ended up. Am I obsessed with it? I don't think so. But not bad for the first time. It was a heck of a lot easier and I got so much done in the time I would have spent blowing my hair out. I think I just need to refine the process. So if you're an air dry hair girly, let me know your process, the products you swear by. I do always feel like whenever you try a new hairstyle it takes a while to get used to seeing yourself with it. So I'm sure that's part of it too. Here's what the back looks like, even though I really feel like that's just none of my business. I will keep you guys posted as I wear it natural more and figure out what works for me.
