how I turned my college job into a full time career

I'm 28 years old and I've worked for the same company for the past eight years. And I feel like it's one of those things like, I married my high school sweetheart, and I never dated anyone else, but things are going pretty well. Like, they get married and, like, they're gonna make it like it. It's cute, it's not cringe. Let me tell you how I turned a college job into a full time career eight years later. Okay, let's lock in. It's 2018 at the University of Utah. I'm living in the Alpha Phi house, and I see on Instagram that this girl I used to do all star cheerleading with in junior high, she looks like she has this really fun job for Red Bull, and she posted a picture on Instagram about it. I was like, hmm, that looks fun, I want to do that. So I apply, I do the video interview, I get a call back, I do an in person interview, and they're like, yeah, okay, you can be a student marketer. At the time was called the wings team. So I was like, I'm gonna be on the Red Bull Wings team. Like, this is so fun. I get to wear the cute backpack, I get to drive the Mini Cooper. Like, this rocks. This is the best college job ever. Turns out I was really good at being on the Red Bull Wings team. I get promoted to team captain. And I'm team captain for the next sophomore, junior, senior years. Fast forward a couple years. I'm a senior. Things are going so well that I'm looking to interview for a more full time role at Red Bull. In March of 2020, COVID hits. I don't interview for that role. It's a whole hiring freeze for the company. And I'm like, what am I gonna do? So fast forward, it's May 2021, and they added head count for an on premise sales role, which is bars, restaurants, nightclubs, hotels, that sort of thing. In Boise, Idaho. I grew up in Boise, Idaho. I'm like, this is perfect. Red Bull calls the job I interview for the Boise Musketeer role. I get it. So I moved to Boise from Salt Lake City. I start my full time career at Red Bull. This is my first full time job ever. I wake up every morning for the first six months and have no idea what I'm doing. But somehow I make it work. I figure it out and I loved it. I had so much fun. Boise was great. But I knew I wanted to be in a larger metro and also have a team because I was one of the only Red Bull employees in Idaho. And I had my sites set On Los Angeles, because Red Bull headquarters are in Santa Monica. West Hollywood Musketeer role opens, and I'm like, hmm, that might be fun. So I apply for that. I go through the interview process, I fly out to L.A. And do my case study. I don't get the job, which hindsight is 2020. I don't think I would have survived 60 days in that role. Like, that is. That's a tough one. Was a little bit bummed, but I'm like, okay, there's gonna be opportunities that pop up, like. And something did come around because the South Bay Musketeer role opened. I ended up accepting that role. So South Bay being Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach. Way more my speed. Wouldn't have known that it was gonna open, and it was gonna work out so well. I packed my bags in Idaho, and I moved to Hermosa Beach. I find a place to live on Facebook Marketplace, and show up sight unseen with two suitcases on January 2nd, 2023. I love the girls that I moved in with, and living in Hermosa is, like, the most magical experience ever. Also, managing all the bars, restaurants, nightclubs in the South Bay was such a fun time. I'm in the South Bay Musketeer role for another two years. Then Red Bull goes through a restructuring that kind of shakes things up. By the end of my time as South Bay Musketeer, I kind of knew I needed to get out of it. On premise. It started to feel like work, going to bars everyday. And that's when you know, oh, I. I gotta see myself out. There's definitely a shelf life to that role. One of the things that happened in the restructure is they reintroduced field marketing into the organisation. And I knew that that would be something that I was interested in. Apply, interview, get the job as a field marketing specialist for West L.A. So I cover basically all of the west side of L.A., plus West Hollywood, Clover City, Inglewood, up to Malibu, down to the South Bay. This also means I managed the student marketer team. So back how I started at Red Bull. Now I manage a team of college students, which is so fun. Here we are eight years later with my high school boyfriend that I ended up marrying and things are still going well, guys.
