hyperpigmentation comes in many forms so today I'm gonna compare a few brightening serums to help you figure out which one is right for you first I have a group of serums each one of these features an ingredient called Melasyl most of the brightening ingredients that we're familiar with are classified as tyrosinase inhibitors Melasyl is not in this category instead of targeting tyrosinase Melasyl targets another part of the melanin production process so we've got five different serums here that feature this ingredient each formula is slightly different but they all do have that same function we've got two Mela B3 serums from La Roche Posay this one's got 0.5% Melasyl and this one is a double dose with 1% Melasyl this one's been specifically designed for like aging skin it's labeled as a treatment for sun spots and age spots we've got this one from the L'oreal brand we have this one from the Garnier brand this one combines it with vitamin C and salicylic acid and then finally if you wanted to know which one was my favourite of the bunch it's this one from Vichy this is called the Pigment B3 serum of the five this one is my favourite because it is fragrance free and I really like the very thin watery consistency we have here another thing that stood out to me with Melasyl is that it's been tested and shown to be effective on all skin tones and on different types of pigmentation whether it's sun spots post-acne or even melasma next is the Remedy for Dark Spot Serum technically this is not available in Australia but if you don't mind paying for shipping then you can get this one a very unique one of a kind Dark Spot serum because it combines everything you need to tackle pigmentation all in the one product you've got a bunch of tyrosinase inhibitors and a gentle retinol all in the one serum can be especially good for those that are acne prone and dealing with that post inflammatory hyperpigmentation especially if you have darker skin tone as well next is a bubble tone and texture serum this combines a bunch of different tyrosinase inhibitors like alpha arbutin licorice root and tranexamic acid and there's sodium ascorbyl phosphate which is a vitamin C derivative in here as well now pure vitamin C while it can be effective for brightening the skin it's not really my go-to recommendation for pigmentation because a lot of people do find it irritating and that's very counterintuitive when it comes to brightening pigmentation but vitamin C derivatives especially sodium ascorbate are a lot more gentle on skin so that's not something I'm worried about with this one it's fragrance free it's on the more affordable end and it's got like a nice emulsion texture as well finally we have azelaic acid another well studied tyrosinase inhibitor but it has to be used at prescription strength which is 15 or 20% and it's also well known for its anti-inflammatory properties which is very helpful when it comes to pigmentation and I think it's even better if you can combine it with another brightening serum whether it's something with Melasyl or something with a bunch of the tyrosinase inhibitors I am gonna follow up this video with another in-depth video on how to actually use all these products and how to actually create a skincare routine that targets pigmentation so don't worry it's coming make sure you save this video so you don't lose it and make sure to follow along so you don't miss the next video and if this is our first time meeting I'm Razia skincare nerd and dermal therapist if you have any questions at all or any content requests at all please leave them for me in the comments
