Fourth grade, Day 1. 🥹📚❤️ Every day after school, Avalynn and I do something that has become incredibly important to us: our daily check-in. Her teacher sends home a sheet showing how her day went from the school’s perspective, but then I sit down with Avalynn and give her the opportunity to tell me how she thinks her day went. Sometimes those two perspectives match. Sometimes they don’t, and that’s exactly why I love doing this. Communication may look different for Avalynn, but that doesn’t mean her perspective matters any less. These conversations give her a chance to express herself, practice communicating about her day, and help me better understand what she experienced when I wasn’t there. Today was our first daily check-in of FOURTH GRADE! 🎉 I’m excited to see how her answers, communication, confidence, and independence grow throughout this school year. Here’s to another year of learning, advocating, celebrating the little victories, and making sure Avalynn always knows that her voice matters. ❤️ Follow along as we make our way through fourth grade, one school day at a time. #girldad #specialneeds #firstdayofschool #autism #dailysheet
