Hook
Do you ever go to the bookstore and see Ice Planet Barbarians on the shelf and you think to yourself, you know what, I'm going to read it? This is ridiculous, I'm going to read it. And then you read it and you're like, actually you know what, that was that was kind of fun. That was kind of fun and silly and so you read six more of them and then you're like, I want to just try something else, maybe something with just a smidge of a little bit more of a serious plot. So then you find Married to the Alien Cowboy and you think to yourself, well that's crazy, a cowboy and alien? There's no way that, oh and then you find out it's actually not only just just like a smidge of some kind of serious over-arching plot in the background, but also it's really funny and really good. But then you think to yourself, you know what, I think I'm actually ready for something even more serious. You finally after many, many, many, many, many, many recommendations pick up Choosing Theo, even though you're scared because the original cover has like, you know, man chest on the front and you're not really into those kinds of covers usually. So you pick it up not really having any kind of expectations and then you're obsessed and then you binge the entire series in a month. It turns out it's actually one of your favorites and then you think to yourself, that was so good, but I'm left hanging a little bit because the series isn't finished and I think I'd like to read something just maybe go back just like one step, slightly less serious but still like some emotional impact, you know? And so you find All I Wanted Was Sushi But I Got Abducted By Aliens Instead and you find out that's actually a four book series. And it ends up being really cute and really fun and they're all short so it's like a really easy read. And then you think to yourself, you know what, I'd like to read something absolutely unhinged. So you read I Got Abducted By Aliens And Now I'm Trapped In A Rom-Com where this woman is abducted by aliens, she somehow ends up with two mates as a result of an alien love potion, a talking lion whose name is Chodo, and they're being chased by a pink T-Rex on an alien planet. Also, there's so much smut, even when they're being actively chased by a dinosaur. And then you think to yourself, you know what, actually, um, that was incredible, but I think I need to go back because I've just watched Project Hell Mary and I'm in the mood for something just like not quite like hard sci-fi. I want something with like some deep lore and tragic characters and maybe like, I don't know, like a like a sad girl FMC. Um, and also I want it to be really long because I've been left hanging by so many things that I'm ready for. And so you read The Wildborn. It's like 600 pages. Also maybe he's got sparkly drugged up fluids. And then you don't realize that this is actually part of a series while you're reading it and you get devastated because it's actually so full of plot that there's absolutely no way that every single plot point could possibly be wrapped up in one book. Um, and now you're crying because you have to wait for book two and so you think to yourself, you know what, I'm going to read something that has so many books in the series that I'll be good. I'll be good until at least one of those other ones has another book come out. And so you go back to one of the first authors that you really liked, Ursa Dax and you find out she has another alien series that's got like 15 or something books in it. Uh, and so you read Alien God. And that's where I've been for two months. Thank you for your time.
