Oshikatsu = overconsumption? 🤔

Is Oshikatsu overconsumption? I do get the occasional comment of, "this is peak over consumption!" from my merch unboxings to my ita bags to even my top loader Deco. A video that really hit me a little while ago that was about over consumption by Robert Tolppi where he noticed that the word over consumption is used very selectively online, whereas things that are cute and typically more feminine are usually labelled as overconsumption. Which basically implies that small cute things that can just bring you joy, collecting those things because it makes you happy is not actually a value. Which is kind of weird to me personally. I think that the thing that differentiates overconsumption from collecting is intent. When you see people buying like 20 water bottles that they are never going to use, just buying it for the hype, and they usually throw them away within a year, that is overconsumption. Oshikatsu and collector culture I think are very different. Because this all of this has brought me immense joy for years. I routinely use it in my everyday life, in my ita bags, in my outfits. And that's not to say that people don't get sick of their collection. Some people do fall out of love with their Oshi. When you fall out of love with your Oshi, you either resell or regift that to somebody that really loves them. The amount of oshikatsu and merch related things that just go into the bin. Very Very small. And I'm pretty sure that the reason for this is because of how expensive it adds up to be. That is why I very firmly believe that this falls more into collector culture than it does over consumption. But obviously. What do you think?
