Leasing Agent Advice: Why you can't get your keys early even if the unit is ready !

Before you ask your leasing agent if you can pick up your apartment keys early, let me explain to you why we can't. Now, I'm gonna speak to this the way it works in my experience and at my properties. So if this doesn't apply to you and yours, don't worry about it, okay? Because I know how y'all like to get. Usually, okay, what happens is you apply to the apartment, I send you your leasing and your welcome letter assuming you're approved and all those things. And once I send the leasing and the welcome letter, it's set for that date, pretty much. Okay? Your lease is a binding contract, so it is going to be time sensitive based on when the lease start date is and when the lease end date is. If we are not within that window, nothing in that lease applies. So what happens is when my residents reach out, like for example, how a resident is transferring, right? He's transferring. The transfer is set for today, Saturday. He came by yesterday like 5 PM asking if he can get his keys early. The answer is no, because what's gonna happen is you're gonna need to send me a new renters insurance policy with the date change to reflect as yesterday instead of today. I am going to need a new energy account number with the new start date to show yesterday and not today. I am going to need to regenerate your entire lease to show yesterday and not today. Do you get what I'm saying? It's not just as simple as, oh, the apartment is ready, I can get my keys now. No, babe. You should have thought about that when you picked your moving day, okay?
