It's the last for legal passed a law in South Korea that goes into effect next year that they can no longer slaughter and eat dogs. Congratulations, South Korea. The western world is proud of you. It must be so convenient that the animals that are unethical to eat just happen to be the ones that you never grew up eating in the first place. Or is it precisely for that reason that you are so adamantly against it? Because it's so easy to be against something that you've never participated in, that you've never been a part of your culture. That way you don't have to change anything about your lifestyle or do any self-reflection. All you have to do is point fingers at a different culture for doing exactly the same thing that you do, just to a different sentient animal. We all know that cows, chickens, dogs and cats are all sentient animals that feel pain and that can suffer. Yet we're just culturally adapted to care about the well-being of a few of these animals. But morally speaking, there's literally no difference between eating a dog and a cow. The only difference is cultural. So it's so rich coming from someone that lives in the United States, a country with one of the highest rates of meat consumption, where over 25 million land animals are killed every single day with 99% of them coming from factory farms, to sit here and act like the moral arbiter by saying the western world is proud of you. The caucacity is astonishing. I remember when I was like 12 years old, I'd argue with people on the internet. Things never change. Same topic. I wasn't vegan, but I remember I would argue with people that were people from the west and they thought that the dog meat industry was so horrific that they felt the need to dedicate their lives to being against it whilst eating meat, cheese, all that stuff. And I remember my 12-year-old brain was thinking that unless you are vegetarian, I didn't know what vegan was, unless you're vegetarian, you have no right to say to another culture what animals they can or cannot eat. And I still stand by this. Unless you are vegan, you have no right to say to anyone else what animals they can or cannot eat. I never want to hear ever again that vegans are the ones pushing our beliefs onto others when hypocritical videos like this exist. Vegans aren't even trying to ban meat. We're trying to encourage you to make ethical consumer choices. But apparently we're allowed to rejoice over the banning of meat as long as that the western world does not consume. And by the way, this is not a call to respect all cultures, no matter what. Cultures are not exempt from criticism if they are participating in unethical practices that harm sentient beings when unnecessary. We should be able to critique cultures, but it should be mandatory to look at your own culture first and yourself first before pointing your finger at others.
