Five signs you are a bad lawyer

These five things will destroy your reputation as a lawyer 1. Reactive, never proactive. Waits to be told. The good ones send the next draft before it’s asked for and flag the problem before the client finds it. 2. Doesn’t know anyone in their own team. Never had a coffee with the associates a year up. Or a lunch with the trainees below. You need to built a team and be respected by everyone in it. 3. Making the same mistake again and again. Everyone gets the first one free. The second tells the partner the feedback didn’t land, so now they check your work. The moment someone checks your work, you cost more time than you save. 4. You can’t manage deadlines. Not missing them. Going quiet on them. Nobody minds “this’ll be Thursday, not Tuesday.” What kills you is silence until Tuesday evening. 5. Hard work to be around. Takes every bit of feedback as an attack, can’t take a joke at 11pm on a signing. Nobody spends 14 hours in a data room with someone they have to handle carefully.
